Just keepin' ya updated....

So, my purpose in this blog spot, just to state the obvious, is to keep any one who is interested updated on my whereabouts and adventures as I journey off into the wild blue yonder (or into the Sahara desert) and travel, not to Timbuku, but to a few miles FURTHER into the middle of nowhere, NIGER!!!

First off, I appoligize, I am very new to this Blog Spot nonsense, and it may take me a while to figure out how it all works, but just for now, here's a little basic info on the plans:

I begin staging in Philadelphia in the first week of October 2008 and after I believe will probably be a lengthy orientation, a painful trip to the clinic to get our shots, and good long busride, we (as a group of soon-to-be Peace Corps volunteers) will be bording a plane at JFK to Niamey, Niger. (Via Paris France.. I wonder if you can see the Eiffel tower from the airport.. sigh.)

Three months or more in Niamey are used for training, and from what I understand, it will be well into this training before I will know exactly where in Niger I will be posted for the remaining two years or service. From now until then, I am learning French, Hausa, and Zarma; the three main languages of Niger... my hopes are that I become fluent in one... or maybe speak all three very badly.

MY JOB:

My super-cool official title is Agriculture, Animal Husbandry Extension, and as far as I know, I am doing just that. Most likely I will be raising sheep and goats, and well as assisting local farmers in whatever-agriculturally-related-helpwanted I can.... If you are confused at what I will be doing for two years, don't worry... so am I. I'm sure in a couple of months I will be able to readress this topic... (lets hope)

With any luck, I will be able to post and keep this updated as well as share some pictures over the next few years. So if you happen to think to yourself, 'hmm, I wonder what Nichole is up to these days?' here you go!

Nichole-the girls and I are just too impressed that you're off to make the world a better place. Camping in a hut will certainly be different than WeHaKee.
Safe travels

What??? You mean I'm going to have to WRITE letters? I'm not sure I remember how! Maybe I'll have to type them up and print them out so it can feel more like I'm writing an email. Best of luck, and please plug into a currant bush whenever you find one so you can update your blog! Love you!

Can I send cookies via air mail? Wow Nicole! You're off to see the big big world! Well don't forget about us little people back here in the states. Take lots and lots of pictures, write as often as you are able, and we all hope your immune system, digestive system, and spirit grows strong to withstand anything. Good Luck!

I'm so glad you have blog! I hope you'll be able to find ways to update it, or else I'll have to start leaving those nasty comments I warned you about.

It was great seeing you while you were here. My kids adore you, which is rather unusual for them- I think that we must have some of the "Twinner" traits left from so long ago!
